Galveston Arts Center

After a brief move to 25th and market after Hurricane Ike in 2008, the Galveston Arts Center is back in the historic First National Bank Building built in 1878 on 22nd and Strand. The Galveston Arts Center offers exhibitions, art education, public festivals, and children’s programs for all of Galveston County. Admission is free and all are welcome to come and enjoy the ever-rotating exhibits.

One of the few programs at Galveston Arts Center that isn’t designed for the total novice, attendees should be comfortable setting up their own materials and drawing independently. 

There are 8 standing easels and 16 adjustable-angle drafting tabletops with backless stools and viewing is generally in a semi-circular configuration around a small stage with adjustable spotlights.

For Ages 13+

You will be supplied a sketchbook for the class which you should be prepared to fill up! This class will expect practice, dedication, failures and successes as you hone your skills in such a way that you will soon be comfortable drawing anything. Expect to spend at least an hour outside of class each weak practicing your skills. The more time you can commit the better you will be and the faster you will progress. 

Pricing: Non-members $150 | GAC Members: $120

All supplies are included in the class fee

Student must bring their sketchbook to every class

RETURNING STUDENTS: Those who have taken this or a similar drawing class before will be challenged to take on more advanced versions of the exercises and projects after brushing up on the fundamentals. No artist is ever finished learning!

Parents can enjoy a night out on the town while the kids enjoy a fun evening of creativity and art with guidance from GAC’s experienced Teaching Artists. Let them explore their imagination while you explore the town!

For Ages 7-12

Catherine Stroud leads the Mixed Media Art Camp, perfect for artists of all levels looking to explore the field of mixed media from a field professional. Through creativity and exploration, young artists will experiment with many different materials while learning different techniques in creating mixed media art. In this class messy is the name of the game, so be prepared to express yourself and get messy while creating your own unique work of art.

In this ceramics class designed specifically for 1st and 2nd graders, kids will explore the world of ceramics with hands-on activities lead by a skilled teaching artist. By the end of camp the young artists will have a collection of ceramics to take home and display. Bring the young artists in to discover the magic of working with clay as they create ceramic pieces from start to finish, learning about the different types of clay, its properties, and how it transforms throughout the firing process.
