Pleasure Pier

Description

Long before any of us were a consideration, Galveston Island had its very own Electric Park. Opening in 1906 it brought amusement seekers and tourists from all around. It was located only two blocks from the current Pleasure Pier’s location. It featured thousands of incandescent bulbs and lit up the Galveston sky. They had a roller coaster, theater, carousel, and the Aerial Swing. Back then Galveston was promoted as “The Coney Island of the South.”

A One-Of-Kind-Hotel

In 1965 James E Lyon opened up the USS Flagship Hotel, jutting out over a quarter of a mile into the Gulf of Mexico. The hotel stood entirely over water, making it the only structure of its kind on the continent. The USS Flagship Hotel withstood many, many storms, and was a sight to behold off Seawall Blvd. She was seven stories tall and had 225 rooms. In 2008 the structure was severely damaged by hurricane Ike which caused it to have to close its doors for good.

Pleasure Pier Comes to Life

Having purchased the USS Flagship Hotel in 2003, Landry’s Inc. needed to figure out what to do with such an extraordinary location after so much damage was sustained by the hotel. After a year of trying to decide what to do with the storm battered structure, Landry’s announced in 2009 it would demolish the hotel and build an amusement park on the iconic pier. In 2012 The Historic Pleasure Pier opened its gates in May 2012 to excited crowds of Galveston locals and tourists alike. There are 16 rides, midway games, food venues, and retail shops for all to enjoy.

Texas Star Flyer

Take to the skies on a giant swing suspended over 230 feet in the air! With a span of over 200 feet, you’ll see Galveston like you’ve never seen it before! Enjoy the view of Pleasure Pier, The Gulf of Mexico, and Galveston Beaches on Seawall Blvd. Must be 48″ to ride; must be 44″ to ride accompanied.

Iron Shark Rollercoaster

Escape the jaw clenching terror of the 100-foot vertical lift, beyond vertical drop, and speed around at 52 miles per hour along 1,246 feet of track. Go through a diving loop and four full inversions. Not for the faint of heart but rewarding to all who dare! Must be 48” to ride.

Pirate's Plunge

Arrgh! Are ye the land lubber we heard about? Step aboard and join us for a sail around the flume of twists and turns. Let’s see if you have the stomach for the high seas! We start with a 22 foot drop to get yer sea legs, and then we hit the tidal wave drop of 40 feet! Hang on and don’t get washed overboard! Must be 42″ to ride.

Gulf Glider

Stay closer to the ground on the classic swing carousel. Reaching just 22 feet off the ground you will be thrilled with enough height and speed to heighten your senses and enjoy a thrilling ride. A great ride for the young and young at heart. Must be 44″ to ride; must be 38″ to ride accompanied.

Revolution

Every wonder what it’s like to swing 60 feet in the air and rotating every which way, wondering which way is up? The Revolution rotates 9 times per minute while swinging you out over the gulf, feeling like you are flying over water, because you are! Due to the safety design of the restraint, guests with unique body proportions may not be able to ride.

Galaxy Wheel

Glide above the Gulf on the giant Ferris Wheel. Each of the 20 vehicles can accommodate up to six people so your whole group can enjoy the spectacular view of the sandy beaches and beautiful gulf water together. At night the Ferris Wheel lights up, creating an awe-inspiring light show to behold. Must be 42″ to ride; under 42″ must be accompanied.

Cyclone

Test your might while sliding back and forth on a 60-foot-tall loop, just far enough that you feel your going to go all the way, hanging there for a moment, then back in the other direction, and again, until you finally make the loop, and another, and maybe another, reaching up to 25 miles per hour! Must be 48″ to ride.

Sea Dragon

Ride the wild seas on the Sea Dragon, swinging you back and forth over 50 feet in the air, like you’re riding the giant waves of the ocean, trying to escape the creature from below! Hold on tight and bring your sea legs. Must be 48″ to ride.

Rock N Roll

Take a ride in a classes car while zooming forward and backward, faster and faster, while jamming out to awesome rock and roll music! No need for a license on this ride, they can’t go fast enough to pull you over anyway! Must be 48″ to ride; 42″ to 48″ must be accompanied by someone over 48″.

Sky Shooter

Experience the dizzying thrills of the sky shooter, spinning you around and up and down. Control your own destiny and elevate your own pod with the push of a button! Must be 42″ to ride.

Carousel

Step back in time with this two-level carousel, full of colorful horses, lions, turtles, dolphins, sealions, zebras, park benches, and more. Relax and enjoy as you merrily go round and up and down. Must be 42″ to ride; under 42″ must be accompanied.

Big Wheelin'

You don’t need to take a driver’s test to get behind the wheel of these monster trucks. Jump in line and be part of the trucking convoy! Must be 42″ to ride; under 42″ must be accompanied.

Frog Hopper

Hop like a frog on the frog hopper! Up and down, it’ll bounce you up to 22 feet in the air! Must be 36″ to ride.

Texas Tea

It’s always time for high tea at Pleasure Pier! Give your cup a good spin at tea-time and enjoy the ride in one of six oversized teacups. Great for kids and adults! Must be 36″ to ride; under 36″ must be accompanied.

Pier Pileup

It’s a smashing good time at the Pier Pileup on Pleasure Pier. They don’t check your license at the door but check your turn signal at the door. If you’ve ever wanted to get that driver back that cut you off in traffic, or just ever driven in Houston, this is the chance to exact your revenge indiscriminately! There are 18 adult vehicles and 10 kid vehicles available. Adult and Kid sections are separate. Must be 38″ to drive in the kid section; maximum 50″ to drive in kid section. Must be over 50″ to drive in the adult section; persons over 42″ may ride as a passenger in adult cars.

Lil' Captain Wheel

Take your little buccaneer on their own mini-Ferris Wheel ride. Go round and round and enjoy the view as they do. Height Requirement: Under 42″ must be accompanied by an Adult.

Gear up and show off your wild side with a Pirate’s Plunge hat or Iron Shark T-shirt! Let everyone know your bravery from tackling the treachery of the sea. Pelican’s Bag is chock full of theme apparel, Pleasure Pier branded merchandise, and assorted beach items and souvenirs. There is no height limit for this attraction.

Lolli Pop's Candy Shoppe

Follow your sweet tooth to the candy shop and indulge in confectionery concoctions to your heart’s delight. Sugary sensations await, from lollipops and gummy candies to all sorts of nostalgic goodies. Sweeten your visit with a stop into the best candy shop around.

Bubba Gump Retail

Run Forest Run and Grab your Box of Chocolates PJ set for the whole family. Cuddle with Shrimp Louie in a Blanket. Pick from an assortment of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co Caps and Trucker Hats, flasks, glasses, seasonings, and so much more from the Bubba Gump retail store. If they don’t have it in stock, you can probably order it online. They also have souvenirs made specifically for the Galveston Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Test your bravery with the ferocious Shark Attack and heart-pounding Mysterious Underworld 5D Theater rides! Effects include extremely realistic movement in all directions, water, wind, smoke, and more. Located across the street from the historic Pleasure Pier! Includes both Shark Attack and Mysterious Underworld rides. Located across from Pleasure Pier you do not have to purchase a Pier Walk – On ticket to ride or enter.

Shark Attack | $8

Shark Attack 5D is not for the faint of heart! You will experience extreme terror from the attack of a Giant Megalodon Shark strait of the prehistoric age! Escape is futile and peril is eminent! Main the harpoons and hold on for your lives!! The theater is located across the street from Pleasure Pier and does NOT need a Pier walk-on ticket.

Mysterious Underworld | $8

Prepare for extreme spelunking on an old, abandoned mine track through the depths of the Mysterious Underworld and discover forgotten creatures, twisting and turning through treacherous track long discarded and forgotten! The theater is located across the street from Pleasure Pier and does NOT need a Pier walk-on ticket.
