Bars & Lounges

GETTING ONBOARD WITH THE RIGHT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

It’s your responsibility to ensure you have all the proper documentation to board the ship and enter each of the countries your cruise visits. We’ll require government-issued identification to board. And government authorities may require you to have a visa or meet other requirements.

Passports are Best

A passport is the best ID document for travel. Make sure yours doesn’t expire for 6 months after your cruise ends.

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship. We strongly recommend that all guests present a passport as their form of ID on boarding day, and for some guests a passport is required.

The passport must be valid for six months after the day your cruise ends. The name on your passport should match the name on your reservation. What if my name doesn’t match?

While some other forms of ID may be accepted for your cruise, a passport is the very best option and here’s why:

  • A passport is the hassle-free, gold standard for traveling between countries.
  • Boarding and disembarking through customs with a passport is usually faster than other types of ID documents.
  • If you have an issue while exploring a foreign port (such as missing the ship), it’s best to have a passport with you.

Guests who do not bring required documents may be denied boarding.

Caution: Birth Certificates

U.S. Citizens can cruise with a birth certificate on most sailings from the U.S. But your birth certificate needs to meet the requirements.

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship. We strongly recommend that all guests present a passport as their form of ID on boarding day.

U.S Citizens

Technically, yes – U.S. citizens can present a state-certified birth certificate and government-issued photo ID to sail on most cruises departing from the U.S.  But a passport is the more efficient, secure option. Learn more about why passports are best.

Should you decide to present your birth certificate on boarding day, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Most, but not all, sailings from the U.S. will accept a birth certificate. Learn if your sailing does at our Travel Documents Hub.
  • It must be a state-certified birth certificate issued by the government. No “baby feet” certificates, no hospital birth certificates and no baptismal papers.
  • You must present the original copy, no photo copies.
  • You must also show a valid government issued photo ID, like a driver’s license.
  • Guests 15 and under do not need to show to show an ID, just the birth certificate.
  •  Puerto Rican birth certificates issued prior to July 1, 2010 are not valid. The government of Puerto Rico has partnered with VitalChek.com to issue new birth certificates.

Canadian Citizen

Similarly, Canadian citizens age 14 and under may present an original Canadian-issued birth certificate.

Should you decide to present your birth certificate on boarding day, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Birth certificates are accepted as identification only for Canadian citizens age 14 and under. The certificate must be an original Canadian-issued birth certificate.
  • No supplemental document required unless minor is traveling with relatives or friends, then a notarized Travel Consent Form is required. Learn More.

Guests who do not bring required documents may be denied boarding.

Names Must Match

If you’ve had a name change, and the name used across your documents does not match, you will need to take an extra step.

Everyone will need to present an accepted form of identification to board the ship.

It’s important that the name on your reservation appears exactly as it does on the government issued identification document(s) that you use to board the ship.

If your name has changed since your document was issued, you will either need to update the name on that document, or bring an additional, official supporting document to help explain why the name is different. This can include one of the following:

  • State, county or province-issued marriage license
  • Divorce decree
  • Government-issued name change document
  • Official adoption papers

U.S. citizens who are able to present a birth certificate plus a government ID for their itinerary, should keep in mind that the name on BOTH of these documents must match each other, and match the reservation. If they don’t, you’ll need a supporting document as listed above.

Guests who do not bring required documents may be denied boarding.

Cruising With Kids That Aren't Yours

When a minor (age 17 and under) travels without their legal guardian, an accompanying adult must present a notarized form signed by the child’s guardian.

Required ID for Kids

To learn exactly what documents your child needs for your itinerary, visit our Travel Documents Hub.

Traveling with a child that is not your own

Are you traveling with a grandchild, niece, nephew, or other child that you are not the guardian of? When a minor (age 17 and under) travels without their legal guardian, an accompanying adult must present a notarized form signed by the child’s guardian. This ensures the child has the guardian’s consent to leave the country and participate in release-form activities onboard.

DOWNLOAD MINOR CONSENT FORM

Different last names

If your child has a different last name than you, you will need to bring an official supporting document to help explain why the names are different. The supporting document must be the original, or a notarized copy. Some examples of valid supporting documents:

  • State, county or province-issued marriage license
  • Divorce decree
  • Government-issued name change document
  • Official adoption paper

Visas May Be Required

Some countries require an entry visa or electronic visa based on your nationality.

Based on your nationality, you may require an entry visa to board your cruise or enter certain countries your cruise visits. It is the guests’ responsibility to identify and to obtain all the necessary visas before commencing their cruise.

Visa Guidance for All Nationalities

Guests of all Nationalities should contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your cruise for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. Guests may then contact a company that assists with securing and processing visas for travelers.

Don't Pack Your Docs

Please keep all travel documents on your person at the terminal; you’ll need to present them at check-in.

Giovanni's Italian Kitchen

Sunday supper is served every day at Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen. The menu highlights Old-World classics, including veal meatballs in sauce like made in Romana, Pappardelle with rich radicchio cream or hand-tossed pizzas, delivered straight from the oven. And ask a sommelier on staff to suggest the perfect pairing from a wine list that ranges from Sangiovese to Super Tuscan.

ATTIRE

Casual

MENU HIGHLIGHTS

Heaped with mortadella, porchetta, fresh mozzarella, and more, Giovanni’sSM assorted meat and cheese platter is the perfect way to start a meal among friends and family. If you love the taste of truffle, try the caprese salad — a beautiful globe of truffle burrata served over arugula, heirloom tomatoes, pesto, balsamic glaze and fresh basil oil. The classic lasagna is also a must-try, oven-baked and layered with tasty Bolognese sauce, cottage cheese and mozzarella. And if you’re craving a pizza, the 12-inch pies here do not disappoint. Stick with a traditional margherita or primavera, or mix things up with the truffle & eggs, topped with bacon, eggs, pecorino and white truffle oil.

PRO TIP

The most popular items have hearts drawn next to them on the menu. Keep an eye out for these can’t-miss dishes.

INSIDER TIP

Open for lunch on sea days only.

MENU HIGHLIGHTS

The best way to begin a meal at Chops Grille is with the charred beef carpaccio, sliced thin and served rare with fresh arugula, Parmesan cheese, and truffle mustard dressing. As far as entrees go, the tender filet is one of the most popular items on the menu. If nine ounces is a bit too much for you, opt for the smaller 6-ounce petite filet — it packs in just as much flavor as the standard cut. If you’re a traditionalist, complement your meal with an order of steaming Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, or change things up with Chops’ signature gruyere cheese tater tots and truffled French fries. And don’t forget to save room for a refreshing slice of tart key lime meringue pie or classic New York cheesecake, served with raspberries and lemon confit.

PRO TIP

The chefs at Chops Grille will hand cut, season, and grill each steak to your specifications. When in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask for the chef’s recommendation.

If you’re looking for the ultimate indulgence, it doesn’t get better than the Chocolate decadence brownie, served a la mode with a healthy helping of chocolate fudge and salted caramel sauce.

PRO TIP

In the mood for baked oysters? Enjoy them three different ways — Rockefeller style, with leeks and white wine, or with brie and champagne.
